Viettel expands into Vietnam

Viettel has selected ECI Telecom's optical and broadband access solutions to expand its network in Vietnam, according to Digital Media Asia.

As one of the major suppliers of equipment for Viettel's network, ECI has supplied its XDM Multi-Service Transmission Platform, BroadGate Multi-Service Provisioning Platform and Hi-FOCuS Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN) platform in an IP DSLAM configuration.

In addition, for this network expansion, Viettel installed ECI's Hi-FOCuS-5 MSAN platform to increase DSL broadband access from Ho Chi Minh City to the other major cities and provinces in the country.

Adtran company of the year

Adtran, a supplier of network equipment, has been named Company of the Year in the Network Infrastructure category in the Annual Report Card from CMP Channel's VARBusiness, says HomeToys.

The company received the highest marks of any participant in two of the three subcategories in which it participated.

"We are pleased to be recognised by our partners as a preferred choice for their business," said Ted Cole, VP of channel sales, Adtran Enterprise Networks Division. "The Adtran ADvantage Partner Program continues to gain recognition for excellence, and this award further validates our position as one of the leading channel programs in the networking industry."

Alcatel-Lucent, Uganda Telecom cut deal

French based Alcatel-Lucent last week entered into a US$20 million contract with Uganda Telecom to increase the latter's network and overall service quality, according to AllAfrica.com.

Providing hardware, software and services to telecom service providers and enterprises in over 100 countries, the company will extend Uganda Telecom's GSM/EDGE mobile network and deploy the first third-generation (3G) UMTS/HSPA network in the country.

Uganda Telecom will become the second telecommunications provider in the East African region after Tanzania's Vodacom to deploy such a 3G network on commercial scale.
