Each and everyone have a few lessons to teach and stories to tell but they are rarely in an environment where they feel that they are able to share knowledge and encourage idea sharing. We have recruited Dr Peter Tobin to assist us in creating just such an environment at ITWeb Governance Risk and Compliance 2018.
ITWEB: What is a Knowledge Caf'e?
Dr Tobin: A knowledge caf'e is a structured conversational process for knowledge sharing and exploring new ideas in an open, non-judgmental way on a set of pre-selected topics. The real purpose is to stimulate action on the pre-selected topics once the Knowledge Caf'e is over.
ITWEB: How does a Knowledge Caf'e work?
Dr Tobin: Small groups of people discuss pre-selected topics at several locations for a few minutes, with individuals switching locations periodically and getting introduced to the previous discussion at their new location by a "table host". This process is repeated a couple of times with new locations being visited to ensure that a thorough mix of views are obtained. At the end of the small group discussions there is a plenary feedback of the summary of the discussions of each group by location.
ITWEB: What are the potential outcomes for delegates?
Dr Tobin: First, this is an excellent networking opportunity to get to know other delegates better. Second the delegates will have had the opportunity to hear a wide range of views on the pre-selected topics and to contribute their own views. Third the delegates will learn from other small group discussions during the summary plenary feedback even if they were not part of the detailed discussion themselves. The real benefit is sharing ideas, learning new ideas and benefiting from the power of collaboration.
