Storage management in demand

A growing demand exists for effective storage management tools, rather than simple monitoring software, according to an industry commentator, says Zycko.

Tony Lock, analyst with Freeform Dynamics, suggests that increasing uptake of virtualisation is elevating the need for tools which can assist with automatic administration and management of networks.

Lock writes: "Today, with every organisation seeking to optimise both the availability and effectiveness of its IT systems, the demand for true systems management tools has never been greater."

Mtron Storage Technology's solid state drives (SSD) will be used as the main 1TB data storage for Anita (Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna), a project funded by Nasa to research on high-energy cosmic ray from the South Pole, says Earth Times.

Anita is a radio telescope attached to Nasa's stratospheric balloon to detect radio "cherenkov", a frequency created by collision between neutrinos from space and the ice in Antarctica, in order to discover the creation of high-energy cosmic ray.

Mtron's 1TB SSD used for Anita is the combination of eight Mtron 3.5-inch SATA SSDs, which provides the largest SSD storage space among Nasa's stratospheric balloons.

JMR Electronics' BlueStor External PCIe RAID Storage System with PeSAN Technology has been in use at HoneyShed as part of the post-production process, says Data Storage Connection.

HoneyShed is the first interactive Web site designed to connect a generation that lives online, to the popular large brands they love via video content.

HoneyShed previously used two non-scalable eSATA Direct Attached Storage arrays connected to a Mac workstation with Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools, called the Assistant Edit Station, to store its content.
