India low in e-governance

India figures quite low in a global e-governance ranking, a new study says, reports Business Standard.

The country's largest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services, which has authored the study, said that New Delhi has to catalyse policy decisions to improve e-governance.

India's per capita public sector IT spend is just $1.29, compared to $199 in New Zealand and $153 in Singapore.

Municipalities sign covenant

Thirty-one Philippine municipalities have signed a covenant indicating their commitment to help each other implement e-governance, says Inquirer.net.

As a result of the "E-governance for Municipal Development (eGov4MD)" project, municipal officials have agreed to share skills and resources in the development of e-governance systems.

They have also agreed to pool finances to build a community of technical professionals who will assist local government units in implementing e-governance projects.

Kosovo to start e-governance

Officials are pledging that Kosovo's public institutions will be 'digitalised' within four years, says Balkan Insight.

"Kosovo has no time to wait... it should reform the public administration and enable complete governance," Arsim Bajrami, the Minister of Public Services, said, adding that a fully electronic administration is possible.

"Digitalisation of the public administration does not mean staff downsizing, but it is rather cost-effective," Bajrami added.
