Brabeion does SaaS
Brabeion Software, a provider of IT Governance, Risk and Compliance (IT GRC) management software, has launched On Demand, a Software as a Service (SaaS) alternative, says Thomas.Net.
A SaaS model is particularly attractive to organisations that wish to jump-start their IT GRC programs without an upfront investment in IT infrastructure.
According to Gartner, "SaaS is forecast to have a compound growth rate of 22.1% through 2011 for aggregate enterprise application software markets, more than double the rate of enterprise software."
IRS improves governance
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has greatly improved management of its information technology projects, says Next Gov.
In fiscal 2006, the IRS revamped its IT governance model by implementing a tiered-program management structure that assigned projects to executive-level steering committees for oversight.
The effort was in direct response to delays and cost overruns with its business modernisation programme, which the IRS launched in 1999 to replace its aging computer systems within 15 years.
Project management drives governance
IT governance is all about ensuring that IT produces the maximum possible value for the business, says Market Watch.
While Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) alone is not enough to meet all the requirements of IT governance, it is one of the most critical ingredients for a successful IT Governance strategy that both produces value and manages risk.
The aim of PPM is to measure available resources, such as time and money, against all the proposed projects, and apply a consistent methodology to align them with the goals of the business.
