Corey Springett has been in the IT industry since 1992. He has focused exclusively on business intelligence (BI) since 2001, when he started at SAS, from where he joined Progress Software South Africa. Springettâs educational experience includes CUC level one, with diplomas in Cobol programming and marketing. He believes the current state of BI is too focused on delivering technically perfect and architecturally beautiful data warehouses. There is not enough focus, if any, on what the real end-users want or need. He is not happy with the time it takes to get anything of value to decision-makers. The promise of BI has always been the ability to give people ready access to information in order to assist them with making informed decisions, but the time traditional BI approaches take does not allow for this, he says. When not working, Springett owns a farm in Magaliesburg to which he escapes from the city on weekends. He is married with two stepchildren. He is also a keen cyclist â he has done the 94.7 Highveld Cycle Challenge three times â and is a keen fly-fisherman.
