Alkesh Patel is principal consultant of security and privacy services at IBM SA. He is a principal consultant in IBM Global Services, SA, specialising in security, privacy and risk management, and has been with IBM since 1995. Patel leads IBM’s security and privacy consulting services in SA. He has 15 years' IT experience, the last four of which have been in security and risk management. His career with IBM began in a technical support position and he has since progressed through various positions in marketing, project management, services management and now consulting. Through this he has gained experience in consulting, services management, project management and quality assurance, product marketing, systems solution design and implementation, and technical hardware and software support. Patel is an IBM certified professional. He received his certification in the security and privacy consulting competency segment in June 2005. His qualifications are Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering in 1992 and Master of Business Administration in 1999. He has completed the IBM Security Consulting Methodology as well as the IT Management Consulting Methodology and Professional Consulting Workshop training programmes. Patel presents regularly on various security topics at the IBM Information Security & Risk Management Institute as well as other security conferences. He has a good working knowledge of ISO17799, ISF Standards of Good Practice, ITPM, ITIL and CobiT.
