Business Systems Group has since pointed out that this is not the first time it has entered the competition. It entered for the first time last year, and was placed fourth overall and third in the small business category.

BSG Africa won the overall small company category and the IT company sub-category, while iBurst won the telecoms, media, TV, radio and press sub-category. Both companies participated in the survey for the first time.

iBurst MD Alan Knott-Craig Jr says the company had always felt it looked after its people well. He highlights the organisation's policy of open honesty as an example of how it makes its people feel included in business processes.

“We try to make our people want to work for us. Everyone feels as though they are making a difference in the company,” he says.

Knott-Craig adds iBurst will enter the survey again next year and it hopes to win the overall medium company category. He says it entered the small organisation category this year.

A Deloitte statement says the survey now allows for large, medium and small companies to be ranked in the relevant categories, as opposed to there being one overall winner.

Deloitte states overall management style, values and culture, job satisfaction and change management were highly ranked across all three size categories. HR policies and procedures were the second highest ranked dimension in the large-sized company category. The dimensions of reward, recognition, performance management and communication were ranked lowest across the three size categories.

Earlier today, the broadband operator was also named a finalist for the World Communication Award, which will be presented in London, at the end of November.
