Free OS upgrade for Compaq iPAQ users

Johannesburg, 03 Oct 2001

Compaq has announced a free operating system upgrade offer for users of its iPAQ Pocket PC. Users will be able to upgrade to Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 for free, paying only for postage and packing, if they purchase their iPAQs between 6 September and 30 November 2001.

Says Rory Green, iPAQ and Wireless Product Manager, Access Business Group, at Compaq Computer: "The Compaq iPAQ is the only Pocket PC device on the market capable of an OS upgrade. This offer, which applies to both the H3100 and H3600 models, provides the almost 5 000 iPAQ users in SA with investment protection, allowing them to keep up to date with technology changes and new applications. The upgradeability of the iPAQ illustrates Compaq`s commitment to supporting its products while the special offer reflects its commitment to its customers."

Users who wish to take advantage of this offer may visit http://www.modusmedia.nl/iPAQ2002_Upgrade/default.html where they will find instructions on how to go about ordering the upgrade CD-ROM. They must be able to provide a proof of purchase in order to prove their eligibility for the upgrade as well as their iPAQ serial number and their shipping address. Those users who do not qualify for the free offer can still purchase the upgrade CD-ROM for $29.95.

In addition to the OS, the CD-ROM includes a number of applications such as AvantGo, Connection Wizard, MS ActiveSync 3.5, the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Outlook as well as other mobile and multimedia applications. The menu-based upgrade program is simple, guiding users through the upgrade process.
