Hewlett-Packard Company has announced two new point-and-shoot digital cameras - the HP PhotoSmart 215 and HP PhotoSmart 315 - that are ideal for photo lovers and first-time buyers who want to easily capture and share crisp, clear images.

Every year people collect their prints from the developers only to find that pictures from their holiday, wedding, or birthday celebrations are incorrectly exposed, damaged, or even lost. HP`s new digital cameras help take away the stress and worry of a traditional camera and instantly preserve the memories, whatever the occasion.

The HP PhotoSmart 215 and 315, are automatic point-and-shoot digital cameras. Incorrectly loaded films are a thing of the past, the HP PhotoSmart 215 and 315 are ready to go and with the auto-focus and auto-exposure features both digital cameras ensure bright, crisp images every time.

Edit, enhance and manipulate Integrated LCD display means that pictures can be viewed on the HP PhotoSmart 215 and 315 as they are taken, making it quick and easy to choose the pictures you want without the cost of the film or development.

The HP PhotoSmart 215 ships with ArcSoft PhotoImpression and ArcSoft PhotoMontage. The HP PhotoSmart 315 digital cameras come with the above mentioned software as well as HP photo imaging software with enhanced features. Both packages will give you the freedom to enhance, edit and manipulate your photos. Now you can download, manage, print and even e-mail photos to family and friends quickly and easily.

Printing pictures from the HP PhotoSmart 215 and 315 digital cameras is as easy as taking them. With the touch of a button, using infrared technology the HP PhotoSmart 315 will transmit images to a printer, PC and handheld devices without the need for connecting cables, while the memory card can be plugged directly into a HP PhotoSmart printer; no PC or Mac is required. Both cameras come with a USB cable giving you the fastest option of downloading images to a PC.

The HP PhotoSmart 215 digital camera will be available in mid-October.

The HP PhotoSmart 315 is now available from retailers across Europe.

Point-and-Shoot functionality:
the HP PhotoSmart 215 and HP PhotoSmart 315 digital cameras can take up to 40 and 80 photos, respectively, in any conditions. The 215 camera at 1.3 megapixel resolution and 315 at 2.1 megapixel resolution give customers best-in-class image quality.

Digital Zoom:
the HP PhotoSmart 215`s 2x, the HP PhotoSmart 315`s 2.5x digital zoom are ideal for close-up portrait shots or focusing in on architectural detail, the digital zooms can help add an extra dimension to pictures.

LCD display & status bar:
the HP PhotoSmart 215 and 315 have fast LCD (4.5 cm) displays providing the opportunity to preview and review your pictures instantly with real-life performance before or after taking a photo. Camera status information is available via intuitive LCD displays.

the automatic flash, enables pictures to be taken in difficult light conditions.

Avoid red eye:
the HP PhotoSmart 215 and 315 can even help eliminate `red-eye` in people shots with the red-eye reduction feature.

HP`s PhotoSmart 912 and 618 digital cameras are also now available to the European market. Designed with the photo amateurs in mind, the HP PhotoSmart 912 digital camera (1) delivers the control, performance and flexibility of a SLR camera. The HP PhotoSmart 618 digital camera (1) is ideal for PC technologists, and cost/size conscious photo enthusiasts. The camera offers automatic functionality as well as manual control in a portable, feature rich, point-and-shoot camera.

HP imaging technology

The new HP PhotoSmart 912 and 618 digital cameras feature HP`s unique imaging technology that is designed to improve the total image quality for every picture taken. It can adjust for difficult lighting conditions, produce vivid yet natural colours, and capture detail both in deep shadows and in high lights to ensure even better results. It`s like having a "dark room", mini digital photolab, working inside the camera.
