South African Airways` online travel booking facility, flysaa.com, is to be expanded to include pan-European, Swiss, New Zealand and Australian sites.

Flysaa.com, launched just over a year ago, is showing phenomenal growth, says Theunis Potgieter, SAA executive manager, e-commerce. To better serve the growing market, the company plans to expand its international offering.

The company already has UK and US sites, a German home page and call centre support available from London, Fort Lauderdale and Frankfurt. Amanda Sebolai, SAA senior manager responsible for the international sites, reports that the international site has been customised to the requirements of the specific international market.

"You can select the country you will be flying from and the site will change to display that country`s flag, and will, for example, from Britain give you the departure cities from where SAA flies. Specials will be cited in pounds and are very competitive."

Since SAA started an online booking facility a year ago, the number of transactions done on the site has grown by an average of 30% per month, with over 125 000 users currently registered. Some 25 000 new Voyager members were recruited in the first year of operation, and since August, more than 300 million Voyager miles have been redeemed online.

The airline says its saabiz online booking and travel management service, aimed at small and medium-sized South African businesses, is also growing in popularity.
