Global market analyst firm Gartner has cancelled its Gartner Symposium/ITxpo that was set to take place in Cape Town in October.
The Gartner Symposium joins a string of major tech events to be shelved in recent months as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the globe.
Events like the GSMA-run Mobile World Congress, South by Southwest and Google I/O, to name a few, were cancelled because of fears of the deadly coronavirus.
Gartner describes its Symposium/ITxpo as the most important gathering of CIOs and senior IT executives. Last year’s Cape Town event attracted over 1 000 attendees, with sessions to unpack key technology and market trends.
“With continued uncertainty relating to travel restrictions, government directives and reports from leading health organisations, Gartner has made the decision to re-evaluate certain conferences in 2020,” says Lisa Lawlor, Gartner’s programme director.
“With that, while we had hoped to postpone, we have made the decision to cancel the IT Symposium/Xpo, originally scheduled to take place in Cape Town from the 5th to 7th October 2020.”
