MTN has appointed Aspen Pharmacare's Nhlanhla Qwabe as the new chief human resources officer for MTN SA. Qwabe will join MTN on 1 August and replaces Themba Nyathi in the role.
Qwabe is currently group HR executive at Aspen, was previously HR director for Nike South Africa and prior to that worked for MultiChoice in various senior management roles.

A graduate of the University of Zululand with a Bachelor of Administration and an Honours degree in Administration, Qwabe also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Milpark Business School.

In May, MTN announced Nyathi had resigned from the role to pursue interests outside of the organisation. He had worked for MTN for 17 years in a number of different roles.
Qwabe's appointment is one of a number of high-level staff changes the company has announced in the past two months.
Last month, MTN appointed Rob Shuter as its new group president and CEO, although he will only join the group sometime next year, after wrapping up his current responsibilities as a top-ranked exec at Vodafone in Europe.
Soon after, MTN announced Stephen van Coller would join the group in October as VP of strategy and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and that Kholekile Ndamase would join as deputy head of M&A in September.
Group CFO Brett Goschen is also leaving the telecoms operator at the end of September to pursue other interests, after 14 years with the firm. Gunter Engling, who is currently CEO of MTN Rwanda, is stepping in as acting group CFO until a permanent CFO is appointed.
