Stratus Technologies is backing up its ftServer(R) 6300 fault tolerant solution with a $50,000 guarantee against unplanned downtime, the company announced today.
The Zero Downtime $50K Guarantee covers new purchases of any standard configuration of the company's most current enterprise-class x86 fault tolerant server with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and the required service contract. If unplanned downtime results due to a server hardware, Stratus system software or operating system failure within six months following server deployment in a production environment, it's $50,000 cash or product credit in the customer's hand. There are no hidden clauses or trap doors in the guarantee. A typical ftServer 6300 configuration can actually cost less than the value of the payout. The offer is open to customers worldwide, and the program ends Feb. 26, 2010.
“A vendor puts everything on the line when it commits to keeping its customers' most important business operations running without interruption,” said Eugene Saburi, Microsoft general manager, Windows Server Product Marketing for solutions marketing. “The ftServer line is a solid platform for running critical Windows applications that consistently surpassed 99.999 percent uptime reliability since the first model hit the market in 2001.”
Stratus ftServer system uptime has been consistently above 99.9995 percent, or the equivalent of two minutes and forty-five seconds of unplanned downtime per year. Powered by 2.93 GHz X5570 Intel Quad-Core Xeon™ processors, the ftServer 6300 is optimised for large data center multi-tasking applications with high transaction rates, such as credit card authorisation processing, high speed ATM networks, and as a powerful engine for database applications and virtualisation environments. In addition to customer-tailored ftServer 6300 configurations, customers can select from two bundled configurations. The ftServer 6300 Power Bundles #1 and #2 are robust, high-end configurations that consist of Microsoft Windows Server operating system, disk drives and supporting peripherals, with a significant package discount compared to individually priced system components. Other server models in the ftServer line are not included in this program.
Stratus contends that the industry's confusion in the use of terms such as high availability, continuous availability and fault tolerance can mislead buyers looking to protect their critical business applications. Separate research conducted by TheInfoPro and by ITIC/Stratus Technologies bears this out. “When customers buy what they think is a fault tolerant solution, they should expect a system that, for all practical purposes, has no unscheduled downtime,” said Dick Sharod, African regional director at Stratus Technologies. “The Zero Downtime program is a show of confidence that our products consistently perform at the highest levels of availability. Our guarantee is right out there for all to see, customers and competitors alike.”
