Woolworths Holdings has selected PeopleSoft`s full internet human resource management system offering, PeopleSoft 8 HRMS, to manage it`s human capital. In a planned national roll-out, the PeopleSoft solution will be implemented at Woolworths (Head Office and stores), as well as in the Woolworths Logistics Division and Woolworths Financial Services.
Examining Woolworths` key requirements and criteria in selecting an HR system, Mark Canning, HR director at Woolworths, says, "We were looking for a solution that would serve as a springboard into a modern, fully integrated HR system. Another important criteria was that the solution had to be web-enabled, supportive of strategic decision making, and able to allow employee self-service."
"By selecting PeopleSoft`s HRMS, Woolworths Holdings aims to address some of its evolving human resources (HR) strategies and modernise its `people infrastructure`," he adds.
Richard Inskip, director of IT at Woolworths, comments on the main business drivers behind purchasing an HR management system. "Currently, the existing base systems need integrating and updating, and many of the business processes are still running manually. PeopleSoft 8 HRMS will enable Woolworths to better implement its`Business to Employee` (B2E) strategies by modernising the systems, fully integrating all processes, centralising data and enabling employee self-service, whereby employees can manage and view all personal data."
Looking ahead to completion of the project, Canning expects an improvement in integration of all business processes. "Once the implementation process is finished, Woolworths Holdings will have a consolidated human resources system with centralised data - placing the company in a better position to develop its strategic growth policies."
PeopleSoft 8 HRMS will interface with all systems currently running at Woolw orths Holdings` companies, including the financial system, Walker. "In addition," says Inskip, "PeopleSoft will integrate with a diverse set of operational systems - for example, the system that allocates the many Woolworths employees to working shifts in each store."
Jan Coetzee, managing director of PeopleSoft South Africa, says its internet-enabled HRMS offers comprehensive HR solutions, from recruitment to compensation to workforce development. "In addition, through integration with collaborative applications, self-service transactions can extend this functionality to employees and managers."
Coetzee comments that a comprehensive human resources management system is crucial in the achievement of a company`s growth strategies. "It enables businesses to manage and retain an important asset: skilled people. Furthermore, the modular nature of PeopleSoft`s HR solution enables users to manage positions and compensation, recruit, allocate, and train employees, as well as comply with local and international regulatory requirements."
