WiFi hotspot provider Skyrove and networking products distribution company 3G-Systems have partnered to offer WiFi hotspots to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for a once-off fee of R595.

"The price tag on the product should make it within the reach of small and medium-sized IT companies to launch themselves into what is an underserved hotspot market," says Skyrove marketing director Allister Kreft.

High installation costs and the threat of bandwidth abuse have always been the main deterrents to potential hotspot providers up to now, he says.

Skyrove CEO Henk Kleynhans explains this solution offers a per MB billing system, "so hotspot providers don't need to be concerned about bandwidth abuse at their hotspots".

Chris Wessmann, MD of 3G-Systems, adds: "Our strengths in the distribution and support of the hardware, together with Skyrove's unique billing and roaming service, make this offering unique and highly competitive."

Consumers can utilise the hotspot services with credit cards or with vouchers (which the hotspot provider can purchase from Skyrove and resell to customers), notes Kreft.

If the hotspot provider has no IT knowledge, the solution can be bought will full installation support for R1 499.

"In contrast to centrally managed hotspot networks, Skyrove hotspot providers can set their own price and brand the hotspot portal page accordingly," he says.
