Organisations that understand the importance of security can pop into the Westcon Security stand at the ITWeb Security Summit and speak to leading experts about how to secure the cloud, as well as ensure that existing security solutions are performing the functions they are intended to.

As a Bronze sponsor of the 7th annual ITWeb Security Summit, to be hosted from 15 to 18 May 2012, at the Sandton Convention Centre, Westcon Security will be providing visitors with insight into a complete security offering. It is with this that the company will be focusing on showcasing the length and breath of security solutions it offers, from encryption, authentication, endpoint and mobile security, as well as testing and auditing within the context of your private or public cloud.

“Security is never a quick fix, nor can an overall security policy be executed from a single application or source,” warns Andrew Potgieter, business unit manager at Westcon Security. “Security must be an all-encompassing business strategy that isn't dreamt up in the IT department, but that includes the involvement of the executive, business leaders, HR, IT and then your users as well.

“The reason we don't trust information security is not because the systems have failed, but rather because we haven't ensured that the systems we have in place meet our current and future business needs, that they are the right solutions for our purposes, and that they form part of an overall business strategy to ensure potential risk and compliance issues are thwarted,” he adds.

According to Potgieter, the nature of security threats to business are changing daily, hence policies, approaches and solutions also need to adapt to stay abreast of these changes. Now enter the cloud and BYOD (bring your own device) and the goalposts have once again moved.

“To be proactive in the security field, one can't try and stay ahead of the perpetrators, but rather we have to start thinking for them. If I put my information in the cloud, will this entice them? Well of course; so rather than placing it there anyway and layering cotton wool security solutions around your data, develop the security parameter first and put the data there afterwards,” states Potgieter.

Westcon Security will be using the ITWeb platform to showcase a range of products and solutions that will assist you in better meeting your security needs, and will also have a number of skilled security professionals on hand to offer advice on the current state of your security solutions.

Today, the company offers solutions for the individual, the small business, corporate network and global organisations. Westcon Security is currently the local distributor of Arbor Networks, Astaro, Becrypt, Check Point, ClearSwift, Dica, Ironkey, Ironport, Juniper, Kaspersky, Motorola AirDefence, Rapid7, SafeNet, Tripwire and SonicWALL products.
