Walmart unveils new iPhone, iPad apps
US retailer, Walmart has revealed a new iPad app, and upgraded its iPhone existing app, as it looks to link online and in-store shopping, TabTimes states.
The iPhone app has a range of tools aimed at shopping in stores. The app can be used with a barcode scanner and a QR scanner, while it also supports Apple's voice-activated Siri technology, allowing users to create personalised shopping lists.
PRNewsWire says the announcement builds on Walmart's commitment to technology innovation for the next generation of commerce.
The two applications are the first of several mobile products to be rolled out from the recently formed @WalmartLabs group under Walmart's Global eCommerce unit.
The apps were designed as self-service tools for shoppers and to help the big box retailer create more personal relationships with its customers, The Washington Post notes.
“We look at this as a great opportunity to help our customers shop better with Walmart and have a much more convenient way to access our low prices,” Gibu Thomas, Walmart's senior VP of mobile and digital, said.
