Vox Telecom has partnered with The South African Ballet Theatre (SABT) as part of the company's commitment to growing the arts in South Africa.
“We are always extremely grateful to companies such as Vox Telecom who support us. Their recognition of the benefits which the powerful medium of dance can bring in terms of nation building is vital to our continued success, as is their appreciation of our need to maintain the high standards of our dancers,” says Trish Downing, Managing Director of The South African Ballet Theatre.
“Their contribution goes a long way towards maintaining the sustainability of our organisation and helps us bring the magic of classical ballet to diverse audiences.”
“Vox Telecom's involvement with SABT came about as a direct result of the impact that arts and culture, particularly ballet, can have on the youth of our country. Our support of SABT aids them to continue with their mission of touching as wide an audience as possible and introducing ballet to all of South Africa's youth. We are proud that by supporting them we are helping the SABT achieve this mission. Every major city in the world has a world-class ballet company and, as South Africa's largest city, Johannesburg should be no different,” says Vox Telecom's Head of Marketing, Clayton Timcke.
“The arts sector is very reliant on sponsorships and donations, and as the private sector we are committed to standing up for the arts and helping organisations such as SABT bring classical dance to all South Africans.”
Outside its local and national productions that SABT presents each year, it is also involved in an apprenticeship programme as well as ballet development schools in Alexandra, Melville, Soweto and Kathehong.
“Ballet is an amazing channel for reaching people; whether you are living in Soweto or Sandton, everyone speaks the universal language of dance,” says Downing.
SABT is a non-profit Section 21 company, and is a former winner of the PetroSA South African HomeGrown Award for the Nation Builder of the Year.
