Vodacom opts for PPO as project and portfolio management tool of choice

Vodacom, South Africa's leading cellular network, has implemented Post Vision Technology's Project Portfolio Office (PPO) project and portfolio management (PPM) solution to address several project management requirements.

According to Bashir Nagdee, IT corporate systems solutions and project office manager at Vodacom, the organisation supports multiple project environments, each operating within its own niche. “We needed to provide our project management office, project managers, business analysts and executives with an application that would enable them to effectively manage projects through a centralised project repository whilst ensuring collaboration, project visibility and accurate reporting,” he explains.

The company required a dashboard solution that would simplify administration reporting and process compliance, control change, address the registering of projects, risks and issues and, at the same time, serve as an archiving and document repository.

“A number of organisations proposed applications with similar functionalities, but none matched our criteria quite as well as the PPO solution did. PPO's flexibility and user-friendliness as well as its quick implementation timeframe and minimal training requirements were decisive factors in making the selection,” says Nagdee. “We were also very impressed by its small software footprint, the customer base it serves and the fact that it is a locally developed product.”

PPO is a Web-based, enterprise-capable application designed, developed and supported in South Africa to assist organisations to manage projects and project portfolios across a number of industries.

Says Guy Jelly, Post Vision Technology CEO: “PPO provides Vodacom with the framework and necessary tools to customise and streamline its project environment in order to support its business strategies. The solution enables anyone involved in project management to effectively oversee and track progress during any phase of any project.”

Vodacom's IT department embarked on a pilot project involving 30 users, during which Post Vision and its implementation partner, PM Focus, demonstrated the PPO capabilities and laid the foundation for a successful implementation. “Our objective is to establish PPO as the PPM tool of choice in our company and we would like to see our user base grow to more than 200 users in the not too distant future,” concludes Nagdee.
