Virgin Mobile chooses Experian to minimise credit risk, fraud

Virgin Mobile has chosen Experian to manage its credit and fraud risk, and supply an end-to-end data solution.

The fourth mobile player wanted to use the most sophisticated technology available to deliver a truly rewarding experience for its customers.

In June 2006, Virgin Mobile's global operations were expanded into South Africa following the formation of a joint venture with Cell C.

"We were looking for a comprehensive data solution to minimise credit risk and fraud," said Virgin Mobile CEO, Sajeed Sacranie. "We were heading for an innovative launch with strict time frames, and Experian was up for the challenge."

Paul O'Dwyer, Managing Director of Experian-Scorex, said: "Experian was able to offer Virgin Mobile a complete solution that included consumer credit history information as well as a hosted Transact SM customer acquisition solution. This enables Virgin Mobile to control all aspects of data management, including the interface to its front-end system. Credit policy rules can be customised in line with the mobile company's preference."
