The payslip as we know it is changing. We live in an era of "information on tap" and "information is power" and employees are worth more than just the cash employers pay to them.
Despite this change, many employers still only provide employees with carbon-based payslips, which is not the ideal way to communicate an employee's value to the company.
Employees usually do not take into account the other benefits that they may get at the current employer, usually because they do not have this information in the forefront of their minds when evaluating their remuneration.
Employers do a lot more for their employees today than just pay them a wage. Other benefits include pension, provident, training, leave and medical aid, but still all they get on a regular basis is a basic payslip that excludes the detail of these benefits.
Up to now, HR and payroll departments have been solely process and administratively focused, as opposed to recipient (employee) focused. Recipient focused means delivering pertinent information, not just plain old data, to each employee on a regular basis. Delivering all the information to an employee is contained in what is sometimes known as a 'Compensation Statement' or 'Total Benefit Statement'. Simply put, this is an Infoslip.
The goal of an InfoSlip is not to just replace a paper payslip with the equivalent electronic version but to provide a total view to the employee on a regular basis. To do so is tantamount to losing the opportunity for the organisation to communicate each employee's worth in a personal and highly effective manner.
InfoSlips differ from e-payslips and paper payslips in that they do not only provide an alternative to the payslip, but also provide each employee with a host of information and interactive functions. InfoSlips provide additional functionality such as leave calendars, graphs of earnings or packages, the ability to query anything on the document, surveys, newsletters, benefit statements, medical aid statements, claim statements and share statements in a single e-mail.
Employers who just provide a standard payslip to each employee are going to find themselves losing staff to competitors who have ethos of informed employees. It is no wonder that many top companies to work for provide InfoSlips to their employees. InfoSlips can become a tool in the organisation's arsenal to aid in employee well-being and staff retention. InfoSlips are quick and cost-effective in relation to the return gained by employers!
Many employers have already implemented InfoSlips with great effect. Surveys conducted at existing employers have shown a high degree of satisfaction (95%+) with employees. They start off replacing their standard payslips with InfoSlips and then over time add the additional information, eventually building up a comprehensive, simple to understand single view of the status for each employee.
