Verizon rebrands in southern Africa

The former UUNET operations in Namibia and Botswana have been relaunched under the Verizon Business brand.

UUNET Namibia, formed in 1996, will now trade as Verizon Business (Namibia), while UUNET Botswana is to trade as Verizon Business (Botswana).

The former UUNET SA entered Botswana in 1999 with the purchase of 50% of Interswana. The stake was increased to 80% in 2000.

Verizon Business was formed through the global merger of Verizon Communications and MCI in January.

UUNET was an MCI-owned company.

Verizon Business is a provider of data and IP networking solutions, IT services, and customer premises equipment.

Verizon Business`s country leader for Africa, Angela Gahagan, says the relaunch means the group`s portfolio will be extended to customers in Namibia and Botswana.
