Veritas Software has announced the inclusion of its Veritas NetBackup solution with Sun Microsystems` line of tape backup devices to be offered in several tape backup promotions Sun is extending through September this year. The solution will be bundled as Sun StorEdge Enterprise NetBackup.
"The combination of Veritas NetBackup functionality and Sun`s tape backup line creates a best-of-breed solution that is at the forefront of the market," says Chris Boorman, marketing director for EMEA Veritas Software.
"By bundling Veritas NetBackup with our line of tape backup devices, we continue to further the Sun relationship with Veritas Software to provide complete information protection solutions for our customers," says Jeff Allen, vice president, marketing, Network Storage of Sun Microsystems.
Until the end of September, Sun is offering several tape backup promotions, including the Sun StorEdge L3500 Promo and Sun StorEdge L11000 Promo, that provide easy-to-order backup solutions. As part of these promotions, the Veritas NetBackup functionality, as Sun StorEdge Enterprise NetBackup 3.1.1, will be included as host-based software and available worldwide.
The two companies have a long-standing strategic relationship that began in 1993 when Sun integrated Veritas Volume Manager into its Storage Arrays under the brand name Sun Enterprise Volume Manager. Since that time, the relationship has evolved, adding the rights to OEM and resell unbundled Veritas Volume Manager and File System. In 1997, a technology development agreement was inked for Veritas Cluster Volume Manager to provide disk management services for Sun Cluster 2.2. In July 1998, a definitive agreement expanded the relationship to sell backup on all platforms, as well as Veritas Database Editions products. And, in December 1998, the companies` Integrated Services Agreement was announced to provide customers with integrated support and sales services, making it easier for the customer to acquire software support for Veritas Software`s products directly from Sun.
