VERITAS Software, the data availability company, has announced that VERITAS NetBackup, now provides data protection for Red Hat Linux environments. Support for the Linux open-source operating system comes from both VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter and VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer.
"VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter is a mainframe-strength solution designed for the most data-intensive environments and VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer is an easy to use solution designed for small- to medium-size enterprise installations, combining the performance necessary for high-speed backups with an intuitive, centralised administrative interface," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa.
Data multiplexing and parallel operations combined with tape technologies deliver the fastest possible backup and recovery performance. In addition, VERITAS NetBackup automates the backup process with built-in support for all leading tape robotics and libraries. With VERITAS NetBackup, IT administrators can configure, monitor and control backup and recovery jobs from an easy to use GUI interface, using built-in wizards.
Support of Linux environments further expands the flexibility of VERITAS NetBackup, which already protects servers running Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Compaq Tru64, SGI Irix and Windows 2000 platforms, among others.
Linux environments will also benefit from VERITAS Software`s "database-aware" backup solutions, which provide online, non-disruptive backup and recovery of databases. This includes the ability to perform full or incremental backups and automate much of the recovery process. The first database backup solution for the Linux environment protects Oracle databases via an option to VERITAS NetBackup.
