Veritas software and NEC enter strengthened partnership

VERITAS Software Corporation has announced a strategic agreement with NEC Corporation to resell the popular Windows NT enterprise backup application, VERITAS NetBackup.

NEC began marketing and supporting VERITAS NetBackup this month as its preferred backup solution for large-scale enterprise-class backup environments that require centralised management and improved data protection performance. The agreement expands on an existing partnership between VERITAS Software and NEC, a relationship which also includes an agreement for NEC to sell VERITAS Backup Exec for the distributed and departmental Windows NT backup market.

"NEC is a strategic partner for VERITAS Software," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa for VERITAS Software SA. "Together we will deliver solutions that include technical support access for customers to protect mission-critical Windows NT enterprise data via a single source."

"Our Express 5800 Server is popular with enterprise customers running mission-critical applications," says Yoshikazu Maruyama, 2nd Computers Software Division general manager, NEC Corporation. "These computing environments require a reliable backup solution which can scale to protect large volumes of data with reliability and speed. NEC considers VERITAS NetBackup as its preferred Windows NT enterprise backup solution for central management in a large networked environment."

This expanded agreement with NEC further demonstrates the synergy of the Windows NT data protection solutions (VERITAS NetBackup and VERITAS Backup Exec), that resulted from the recent merger of VERITAS Software and Seagate Software Network and Storage Management Group. In addition to VERITAS NetBackup and VERITAS Backup Exec, NEC also provides VERITAS File System and VERITAS Volume Manager on its UNIX solutions (UP4800/EWS4800 series) to improve system availability and provide management and performance.
