Leading South African trusted transactions company Prism Holdings, and VeriFone Holdings, Inc are enabling Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) to deliver faster processing, e-top-up and bill payment services to its merchant customers at retail outlets across Kenya.
VeriFone International Partner Prism - in partnership with local implementation partner, Xllent Technologies - has just completed the first stage of a nationwide roll-out of VeriFone`s Omni 3750 solution at KCB. During this phase, 1 100 modular countertop systems were deployed.
KCB, a certified acquirer for Visa and MasterCard, has begun replacing its existing stock of POS terminals with the Omni 3750 system. The new solution is faster and more compact, and meets today`s memory and advanced communications requirements, including GPRS and WiFi.
Commenting on the success of the first phase of the project, Nigel Bidmead, EMEA Managing Director for VeriFone, says: "Prism has again proved itself a valuable partner in helping to deliver this major upgrade solution for a key bank customer.
"Deploying VeriFone`s powerful and future-proof Omni 3750 ensures KCB`s merchant customers will be able to take advantage of the best in payment technology today and additional revenue-generating opportunities and functionality in the future."
The Omni 3750 features powerful 32-bit processing and multi-tasking capability, together with a memory capacity of up to 6MB. This ensures support for secure payments along with several value-added applications on the same device, including prepaid mobile phone top-up and bill payment services.
"Retailers have confirmed that with the faster processing speeds of the Omni 3750, staff are now choosing to swipe all Visa and MasterCard transactions through the new systems," says Lucy Muuru, KCB centre`s marketing manager.
"The significantly lower cost of ownership combined with a rich choice of services means the Omni 3750 solution is proving to be a real winner with retailers and their customers alike," she adds.
"Looking ahead, we plan to further build on the capabilities of the Omni 3750 offering, including WiFi-based payment services, which have huge potential for our business," Muuru says.
WiFi-based payment solutions offer distinct advantages to today`s retailers. The ease of installation means that systems are up and running far quicker than traditional solutions. In addition, all dial-up traffic can be consolidated on a single line or high-speed link, eradicating the need for additional phone lines and delivering significant cost savings for retailers. Transaction speeds are 350% faster, averaging around four seconds per transaction.
"The Omni 3750 is a true multi-application solution, compared to other systems. This, combined with an enticing cost of ownership, has given us a clear differentiator which has helped us to secure new and valuable contracts," confirms Llewellyn Walters, Group Sales Director of Prism.
The Omni 3750 offers a future-proof solution with replaceable Communication and Security Access Modules (SAMs), which allow additional secure smart card applications or communications options to be deployed as and when they are required, as well as upgradeable modem options to ISDN, Ethernet and wireless communications for easy access to any IP-based network.
The Omni 3750 supports Triple DES Master Session and DUKPT key management techniques, permitting high degree of flexibility in managing EFTPoS transaction security. EMV certifications and on and offline PED approvals add unparalleled levels of security to help stem the tide of fraudulent transactions.
