UK census data hacked?

The UK 2011 census has been hacked, according to a message posted to text-sharing site Pastebin, allegedly from hacking group Lulzsec, reports Computing.co.uk.

The message states that data from every UK resident has been obtained, and will be released on the Web.

“We have blissfully obtained records of every single citizen who gave their records to the security-illiterate UK government for the 2011 census. We're keeping them under lock and key though... so don't worry about your privacy (...until we finish re-formatting them for release),” said the message.

In March, IT conglomerate Fujitsu was unable and unwilling to make any projections about how its fiscal 2011 would turn out in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, writes The Register.

The situation has now resolved itself enough for Fujitsu's top brass to make some prognostications. The company's fiscal 2011 year ends in March 2012, and it now forecasts it will rake in yen2 100 billion in the first half of its fiscal year running from 1 April through 30 September.

Fujitsu says despite parts shortages and the shocks to the Japanese economy, it will be able to pull in yen5 billion in operating income and break even on net income after taxes.

The UK tech sector has seen a huge influx of workers from other industries, according to new figures released by freelance recruitment Web site PeoplePerHour.com, which show the sector playing a key role in the UK's economic recovery, notes V3.co.uk.

The figures reveal a 50% increase in the number of redundant workers securing jobs in the digital sector, with most of these workers having secured a job working for an organisation's IT department or in a technology role.

PeoplePerHour.com says 75% of the new workers in the sector were working in an area unrelated to technology before being made redundant.

Ranks of Foursquare users have continued to swell this year, with more than 10 million people sharing their locations with gadgets tapped into the service, reveals AFP.

The latest milestone came about five months after the New York City-based start-up revealed it had topped six million registered users after growing at 3 400% last year.

Foursquare lets people log their locations by “checking in” from where they are at any given moment using smartphones or other Internet-linked devices.
