UCS Group, one of the world's largest software businesses focused purely on retail applications, has selected Cordys, the leading provider of software for business process innovation, to develop a new process-based solution for the global retail market.
The South African based UCS Group consists of a number of information technology businesses that provide world-class application software solutions, business performance improvement, and outsourcing services in the retail, manufacturing, and wholesale sectors. The group has become a global leader based on innovative solutions and long-term relationships with blue chip clients.
Under the agreement, UCS will use the Cordys Business Operations Platform to develop flexible solutions for retail businesses that will allow them to continuously improve their complex operations and business processes. UCS will offer the Cordys platform as part of its existing products with immediate effect and, over the next three years, will fully integrate Cordys into its next generation offerings.
“Complexity in retail arises out of more than just the need to manage thousands of line items, seasonal turbulence, and on demand replenishment,” UCS group Chief Technology Officer, Neels van Tonder. “Retailers also have to manage multiple applications, an array of different hardware devices, and numerous networking and communications technologies.
“End-to-end process visibility is therefore becoming both a strategic and an operational necessity. Cordys has, contrary to most other middleware vendors, built their SOA based integration platform from scratch and included business process management and composite application development right from the start. In other words, Cordys gives us a cutting edge - and, therefore, ideal - vehicle for expansion into international markets.”
Jan Baan, Cordys founder and CEO, says UCS has deep insight into the retail sector and develops solutions that drive complexity out of the retail business and, therefore, drive down customer costs. “We are very pleased that UCS as a global leader has selected our platform to underpin their products. Through the Cordys Business Operations Platform, UCS will be able to concentrate on fast application development for their customers.”
The cloud capabilities of the Cordys platform have also played an important role in UCS's choice. “Providing business processes and applications as a service in the cloud will allow UCS to demonstrate just how easy it is for retailers, wherever in the world they operate, to streamline their very complex operations and become more flexible, competitive, and sustainable,” Baan says.
CEO of Cordys South Africa, Mike Rolfe comments: “UCS is a world-class software development and services company, with its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has continually demonstrated highly innovative thinking in its product development strategy. We are proud of the fact that they have added Cordys as a fundamental component of their future product evolution.”
