Typo Colour Printing Specialists, one of Johannesburg's leading commercial printing, finishing and binding companies, has significantly upgraded its digital printing capabilities with a new Xerox Versant 2100 press from Bytes Document Solutions' (BDS) authorised service partner XBC-IT.
As an end-to-end print business offering a combination of litho and digital products to exacting customers, Typo wanted a more efficient digital machine with better colour matching, supporting a wider gamut of stocks and sizes at lower operating and production costs.
Founded in 1934 as a small, family-run jobbing shop in Troyeville, Johanneburg, Typo has evolved into one of the most sophisticated and highly respected commercial printing, finishing and binding companies in the country.
"Our business was built on outstanding print quality so we understand the importance of colour quality, consistency and matchability and expect the highest levels of each from our equipment," says Armand Coetzee, Digital Printing Manager at Typo.
"Practically speaking, the Versant 2100 handles a much bigger sheet size than our previous printer, which means we can take on larger jobs on the digital press that would otherwise have been rejected or moved to more expensive litho press," he says.
Now in its 82nd year, third generation owner, Bryan Miltz, the grandson of founder, Zelman Miltz, spearheads a highly specialised team of printers who consistently deliver a wide range of top-quality printed products coupled with an excellent personal service record.
"Our printing presses run 24/7, so keeping pace with rapidly developing technology and the ever-changing needs of the print industry is part of our growth strategy," says Miltz. "Through continual research and regular investment in state-of-the-art pre-press, printing and finishing systems we're able to deliver the best quality and service at the most competitive price points in the industry."
James Carruthers, XBC-IT's production specialist who has worked in both the continuous and flat sheet industries says, "Our business was established as a Xerox service provider 18 years ago. Our experience and knowledge of the pay for print industry and the demands placed on it gave us the ability to keep Typo updated on market trends and what Xerox had on offer."
"The Xerox Versant 2100 is a highly capable digital press that will benefit Typo's printing business and ensure quality for its customers. Our journey with them, from the initial demonstration in August 2015 to today, has been built on a solid and trusted relationship."
XBC-IT, based in Midrand Gauteng, is an established Xerox service provider with an 18-year history with BDS, making them one of the longest serving partners. The company is a 4-time winner of the prestigious Xerox Business Partner of the year award and is an Authorised Platinum Partner.
The Versant 2100 features Xerox's industry-leading high-definition print engine, supporting resolutions up to 2400 x 2400dpi at full speed with any media weight. Using the Xerox Stock Library Manager the printer supports a wide range of print stocks ranging in weight from 52gsm to 350gsm, with an extensive array of pre-loaded substrates. Moreover, additional stocks can be added to the library through a brief print and scan test pass, which allows regularly used stock to be incorporated for easy future set-up.
A full width array inline sensor automates many time-consuming set-up tasks such as density uniformity adjustments to achieve optimal performance with minimal user intervention. It also simplifies colour management through the process of printing and reading test print values and creating revised colour calibration profiles. This also improves colour accuracy and repeatability.
"The Versant 2100 press gives us the right level of quality at a reasonable price point and without all the additional costs and wastage associated with other printers," says Coetzee. "It allows us to print on a wider range of materials, which broadens our scope of work, with quality that closely matches the printing from our litho presses. In fact, it's made our digital and litho work interchangeable, and completely seamless as far as our clients are concerned."
Service and quality rule at Typo where the customer comes first. The best quote, the best quality and the best service is what has kept Typo Colour Printing Specialists at the forefront of the industry for nearly a century.
