Trend Micro's free online virus scanner first to help restore systems infected by most prevalent Trojans

Trend Micro celebrates fifth year of HouseCall online virus scanner by announcing new Trend Micro Trojan System Cleaner functionality

SecureData, an ERP.com company and the exclusive sub-Saharan distributors of Trend Micro, a worldwide leader in network anti-virus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that Trend Micro's free online virus scanner, HouseCall, has been enhanced.

Entering its fifth year of scanning and removing viruses for users around the world, HouseCall will be the only online virus scanner to include groundbreaking technology known as Trend Micro Trojan System Cleaner, the first generic cleaning tool for the most prevalent Trojan programs in the wild.

By incorporating Trojan System Cleaner, HouseCall will not only detect and remove Trojans but will also automatically rid systems of dropped code, as well as reset and restore system settings that have been altered as a result of a Trojan attack.

Trend Micro's Trojan System Cleaner

Trojan programs such as TROJ_MTX, TROJ_Navidad and TROJ_Hybris can spread, not only by infecting or sending infected files, but by making changes to the system itself. They often lurk in memory, modify registry entries and system files, or drop other malicious files or folders onto a user's system. Anti-virus software scans and cleans infected files, but typically cannot act on these other alterations made by Trojans and worms that are left behind to compromise system integrity.

The Trojan System Cleaner is designed to completely clean computer systems of Trojans and the unwanted, lingering items they leave behind. It automatically restores the registry and select files that were modified by Trojans, far simpler than the manual instructions or "one off" tools commonly offered by anti-virus companies.

Trojan System Cleaner is also capable of terminating Trojan programs running in memory, and offers precautionary recovery measures that include a log report that displays the modifications made by the tool and several back-up options. With Trojan System Cleaner, users have a free, quick and simple method for restoring their systems to normal that works automatically, without any user intervention, every time HouseCall scans their systems.

HouseCall

Trend Micro introduced HouseCall, the Internet's first free online virus scanner, back in May 1997. This was a full two years before any other vendor's online virus scanner, proving yet again Trend Micro's technology leadership in the field of malicious code protection. HouseCall is also the only online virus scanner to have been certified by the International Computer Security Association to detect 100% of "in-the-wild viruses." While others regularly charge for usage or only detect viruses, Trend Micro's HouseCall has always been free and continues to detect, clean and remove nasty viruses, Trojans and worms from users' systems day in and day out.

HouseCall brings the ease, accessibility and effectiveness of a server-based anti-virus application to home users over the Internet at no cost. With HouseCall, users always have access to the latest virus protection available, accessible 24 x 7, without time consuming downloads or subscriptions. HouseCall is available now at www.housecall.antivirus.com. HouseCall with Trojan System Cleaner debuts in mid May. HouseCall works with Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME and NT Workstation users. Trend Micro also provides HouseCall for Exchange, which detects and deletes viruses stored in Microsoft Exchange Server mailboxes.
