Tree planting

To celebrate Arbour Week, Brother donated and planted 20 Jacket Plum trees at a recreational park in Meyerspark, Tshwane, on 17 August 2011.

Brother South Africa and the Tshwane Metro invited 135 school children from the Meyerspark Primary School to take part in the Arbour Week celebrations, by assisting with the planting of trees in the park. The children were educated on the Jacket Plum species and how trees contribute towards the sustainability of our planet.

The Tshwane Metro plants 10 000 trees annually, 5 000 of which are planted in recreational parks. Besides beautifying the park, the red fruit of the Jacket Plum is edible and will also attract birds. Christine Myburg, assistant director of Parks and Horticulture, said this tree is an asset in any garden.

Wayne Everton, managing director of Brother South Africa, attended the celebration and also planted a tree. “This initiative is part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said. “Brother is a company that firmly believes in the greening of our planet.”

Everton said Brother would like to give back to the local community and hopes this initiative will make a difference. The company recognises its responsibility in developing a good relationship with local communities and is committed to making a positive difference.
