Track your parcel with MTN and UPS For tracking shipments when you are on the move

South African cellular network MTN and leading international courier service UPS (United Parcel Service) are launching an exclusive parcel tracking service, the first of its kind in South Africa. The service allows anyone to track the whereabouts of a parcel in transit by simply using their cellular phone.

Whether you are in the office or on the move, by using the latest UPS tracking technology, customers can now be notified instantly of the status of their parcel.

The MTN SMS messaging system enables the UPS customer to track or trace the parcel once it has been sent simply by sending an SMS, quoting the waybill code, to the MTN number 0833 012 012. Within seconds an SMS will be returned, giving the customer the delivery status of the parcel.

"MTN is actively capitalising on its e-commerce initiatives, both in South Africa and internationally," says Bob Chaphe, MTN`s group chief executive. "Our partnership with UPS is yet another lead taken by two aggressive leaders in the emerging wireless data economy."

"This joint venture with MTN assists us in providing key information and flexibility to our customers. We have recognised that it is not only shipping managers and secretaries who need to ascertain whether their shipments have arrived, but any company and individual who needs to make use of a courier service." said Konrad Peter, chief executive officer UPS South Africa.

Barry Gonin, New Business Development manager at MTN says, "The development of this tracking technology by UPS and the joint venture with MTN, cements our commitment to creating value added services and providing increased convenience for subscribers. They can now be assured that even when on the move they can still keep track of things."

All GSM subscribers in South Africa and internationally will have free access to this service, provided that they have the ability to send SMS messages to an MTN number. Although access to the service is free, SMS messaging will be charged at standard rates as per the tariff plan for subscribers.
