Toyota picks up speed with blade server project

Motor manufacturer, Toyota, has embarked on a server consolidation process, which has seen the organisation enhance performance and de-clutter its computer room by implementing HP blade server technology.

IT infrastructure, solutions and services provider, Datacentrix, is implementing the R5 million project.

According to senior manager: Infrastructure IT at Toyota, Danie Kotze, the consolidation was necessary to shrink the organisation`s computer room footprint, previously populated by an assortment of standalone and rack servers, and improve server failovers.

"We are already experiencing improved availability and performance and less space constraints within our data centre. The project will culminate in the implementation of 80 blade servers. Datacentrix, having partnered with Toyota for the past five years, initially suggested the blade route to the company. "Toyota has rolled out new and existing software applications on 48 of the 80 blade servers," says Deon Grobler, account manager at Datacentrix.

"Aside from the space and performance benefits provided through this technology, HP blade servers also help businesses of any size operate efficiently, grow flexibly and control costs effectively. Toyota has benefited through centralised backup and easier management and deployment of applications."

"Throughout our lengthy relationship, Datacentrix has proven its strong support and competitive pricing to Toyota," says Kotze. "There was no question that the company would be appointed to implement our blade project."

The company was named the first South African company to enter HP`s exclusive StorageWorks Elite Partner programme earlier this year, was recently named as top local enterprise and corporate reseller and won the award for best growth within the enterprise storage arena.
