Topping the list is the Ericsson R380s Smartphone

In what has become an annual ritual for IT and Technology editors to celebrate and share in the excitement of the latest and most innovative devices, which also enhance the life of users, the Ericsson R380 Smart Phone was awarded the 2000 Classic FM Business and Technology Show, consumer product of the year award.

According to Michael Herman, editor of Convergence magazine who filed the Classic FM report, the Ericsson R380, the first truly converged mobile phone and personal digital assistant (PDA) device, was nominated as the undisputed winner of this consumer product award which was held for the first time last year.

Features that were highlighted included the fact that the Ericsson R380s combines mobile phone functionality with advanced features such as WAP, SMS and email in a device that measures no more than 13cm x 5cm x 2,5cm. The backlit screen further impressed especially given its remarkably accurate handwriting recognition capabilities.

With its respectable four-hour talk time and 107-hour standby time, this winning GSM/dual band device comes complete with on-board modem, WAP browser and voice note recorder. On the PDA side, the Ericsson R380s has a comprehensive set of tools including address book, calculator, notepad and support for synchronisation with industry leading PC applications.

Not called the Smartphone for nothing, the business-minded R380s which was also selected as one the "100 Greatest Achievements during 1999 in Science and Technology" by America`s "Popular Science" Magazine, is definitely topping every business executive and gadget fundi`s Christmas wish list.
