Vodacom has once again recognised academic excellence by awarding its prestigious CEO Scholarship Award to the top three matriculants of 2006.
The three students - two from the Western Cape and one from Gauteng - received confirmation of their scholarships from Vodacom Group Chief Executive Officer, Alan Knott-Craig, at a function in Midrand today.
The scholarship is valued to a maximum of R100 000 per student per annum, and is renewable on an annual basis. It covers tuition and registration fees, books, boarding and meals, transport, a personal computer with a Vodafone Mobile Connect Card, a Vodafone live! cellphone, a monthly cash allowance. The three recipients will also have an opportunity of being mentored by one of Vodacom's executives.
The CEO Scholarship Awards, the first of its kind in the country, were inaugurated last year when they were presented to the top three matriculants of 2005. The three students have all had their bursaries renewed in 2007 to cover their second year of study.
This year's scholarship recipients are:
* Jaco Jordaan of Krugersdorp, who achieved an aggregate of 98% with 11 distinctions. He plans to study a BCom Accounting at Pretoria University.
* Vinesh Rajpaul of Cape Town, who will study Astro Physics at the University of Cape Town. He achieved eight distinctions in matric.
* Johan du Plessis of Cape Town (7 distinctions) who plans a career in actuarial science following his studies at the University of Cape Town.
"Through the Vodacom CEO Scholarship Award, we want our top students to have the means to develop to their maximum potential. This award recognises and rewards the finest of our young achievers in South Africa," according to Vodacom Group CEO, Alan Knott-Craig.
Vodacom also has an extensive bursary programme which has provided over 700 bursaries in the fields of electrical engineering, information technology and commerce since its inception in 1995.
