ThinkPad celebrates birthday

On 5 October Lenovo celebrated the 15th anniversary of the ThinkPad notebook PC, says Irish Dev.

The ThinkPad was first brought to life by a group of 10 designers and engineers from around the world, influenced by the unlikely pairing of a traditional black-lacquered Japanese lunch box and an IBM-issued employee pocket notebook with the corporate motto `Think` imprinted on the cover.

Today, more than 30 million ThinkPad notebooks have been sold in more than 160 countries worldwide.

Gateway unveils desktop LCD

Gateway joined the high-end desktop LCD market with a 30-inch display that allows users to connect up to six video sources at the same time, says tgdaily.

The screen carries a price of $1 700 and the display integrates one HDMI, one analogue VGA, DVI-D with HDCP, composite video, S-video and component Y Pb Pr, as well as four USB 2.0 ports.

If needed, users can connect up to six video sources, including desktop and notebook computers, Microsoft`s Xbox 360, Sony`s PlayStation 3, Nintendo`s Wii, or HD players and set-top boxes to the devices.

Goldman Sachs cautious on PC growth

Goldman Sachs said on Thursday it has become more cautious on PC and notebook shipment growth for the fourth quarter of this year, according to The Economic Times.

"We expect the market`s 4Q07 PC and notebook forecasts to be adjusted downward. Thus, market sentiment on the PC/NB sector may turn more cautious even if demand outside of the US is unchanged," Goldman Sachs analyst Henry King wrote in a report.

King added that so far Dell had not cut any notebook orders, but had suffered from supply constraints, and that Hewlett-Packard could potentially cut orders due to concerns over a slowdown in the US economy.
