Sandton Medi Clinic and Morningside Medi Clinic needed to transfer critical X-ray information between sites. The average X-ray file could exceed 90Mbs, and with the current ADSL line offering around 4Mbs, they needed an alternative solution. Their current solution, to use a courier to transport a DVD or hard copy of the X-ray between sites, was proving costly and adding significant time to a patient's diagnosis.
APC solution
APC surveyed, deployed and configured a Motorola PTP600 wireless solution. This provided the client with a high-speed network link between the Medi Clinic and radiology department in excess of 250Mbs. Other wireless vendors had previously surveyed the same solution; however, they could not achieve a successful connection between the two locations.
Due to the location of the wireless links, in the built-up metropolitan area of Sandton, APC had to design and plan the project to be spectrally efficient. Unlike other wireless solutions, the Motorola PTP600 uses a reduced channel size and can work in environments which other products would find challenging or impossible.
The result
The project from start to finish was planned, designed and deployed within a two-week window, with final deployment taking just two days.
APC now provides a full-level support agreement for ongoing maintenance and support to ensure, in the event of a highly unlikely failure, the downtime is kept to a minimum.
APC worked with partners Siemens and Health Focus to ensure its success. The immediateness to which the X-ray can now be viewed between the doctor and radiologist has led to unprecedented patient service and almost zero wait time for diagnosis.
