Research results and predictions
* The latest PC forecasts are down from their previous forecasts, according to Gartner, and growth in 2011 is now expected to be only 387.8 million units. This is a 10.5% increase from 2010, but down from the previous 15.9% projection.
* The worldwide server market grew by 15.3% in Q4 2010 to reach $15 billion, reports IDC.
* According to BMI-TechKnowledge's latest IT services report, Dimension Data was the largest provider of services to the South African market, with 14.8%, followed by Business Connexion and Gijima.

The Wall Street Journal has published its second annual ranking of venture-backed clean-tech companies. Of specific interest to the ICT sector are Opower, at number five, a developer of software for utility companies that helps consumers boost energy-efficiency; SeaMicro, at number seven, a provider of low-power servers for data centres; and Boston-Power, at eight, a maker of lithium-ion batteries.
