Telkom 'not anti-competitive`

The fixed-line giant is not anti-competitive, says Telkom chairman Shirley Lue Arnold.

Arnold`s statement follows last week`s report in Business Day that Telkom was "deliberately hindering" Neotel`s progress.

However, Arnold maintains the board is not concerned about allegations such as these.

"Telkom and its board welcome liberalisation. We know we cannot provide all of the services on our own. And we are in compliance with the country`s regulations. It is a misconception that we are still anti-competitive," she says.

This does not mean that the company is not protective of its turf, but rather that it is engaged in highly-competitive activity, she explained.
