Fixed-line operator Telkom and potential takeover target Business Connexion (BCX) have extended the date for meeting conditions for the acquisition from 31 May to 1 July.
Hearings into the R2.4 billion merger, which began on 12 April, are taking place at the Competition Tribunal.
The remaining condition, before the deal can be concluded, is that it is approved by the country's competition authorities. Last year, the Competition Commission recommended the merger not be allowed.
The tribunal is set to hear final arguments on 22 June before making a decision.
