Telecom Namibia Limited, the national telecommunications operator of Namibia, has signed a three-year maintenance and support contract with Dimension Data South Africa.
The agreement, valued at approximately R14 million, will see Dimension Data providing maintenance and support to the Telecom Namibia network management centre. With more than 136 000 customers, Telecom Namibia operates the largest digital telecommunications network in Namibia.
"We turned to Dimension Data to provide us with flexible support services that include hardware and software upgrades, troubleshooting and technical support," said Bernd Ahrens, general manager for technology, Telecom Namibia.
Dimension Data will commence an assessment of Telecom Namibia`s network management centre in January 2005 to identify the key areas that need improvement. The assessment will form the basis for the ongoing improvement of the centre. Dimension Data will also enhance the system to align better with current fault management processes, upgrade hardware and application software as well as offer related user training for the duration of the contract.
Commenting on the project, Matthew Coad, national practice manager, Dimension Data Operations Management, said: "Outsourcing the maintenance and support of its network management centre to a specialist third-party enables Telecom Namibia to be more customer-centric and focus on providing telecommunications products and services."
Dimension Data`s relationship with Telecom Namibia extends back to 1996. "This additional contract, combined with solutions recently implemented in other African countries, further consolidates our position as a supplier of IT solutions and services throughout Africa," concluded Coad.
