Tallygenicom bankruptcy, partners not left in dark

Johannesburg, 17 Feb 2009

Printronix is set to be the principal bidder in the auction proceedings of US-based Tallygenicom, which recently announced it had filed for bankruptcy. One of only two global manufacturers of line printing solutions, Tallygenicom's demise has the potential to have a substantial impact on the market.

Printronix, the only remaining line printer manufacturer, as well as a leading developer and provider of industrial and back-office printing solutions, is perfectly positioned to step into the breach.

Printronix southern Africa distributor, The Printer Distribution Company (PDC), is pre-empting any disruptions to users of Tallygenicom products by inviting resellers and distributors to initiate negotiations with them. “Tally UK and SA has switched the lights off,” says Rodney Bartman, PDC's CEO. “But that shouldn't mean its partners are left in the dark. We want to enable these companies to continue to offer their customers top quality line printer products.”

Sole distributors of Printronix line printers in southern Africa as well as AMT Datasouth and Microplex and sub-distributors of OKI and Brother, PDC has established itself as a strong force in the local printer solutions market. Bartman believes the company has the experience and resources to ensure a smooth transition for Tallygenicom vendors and looks forward to building mutually beneficial relationships with these companies.

Tallygenicom's printers are designed and manufactured to perform critical, business-specific printing tasks in industries such as healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, warehousing and retail. However, the reputation Printronix has acquired as a market leader in enterprise solutions for line matrix printing, high performance thermal bar code and fanfold printing solutions gives it the credentials to fill the gap. Additionally, the company has become an established leader in pioneering technologies, including radio frequency identification printing (RFID), bar code compliance and networked printer management.
