Tech talent marketplace OfferZen has expanded to Durban, after seeing strong demand for tech talent on its recruitment platform.
According to the company, local tech firms are growing aggressively and hiring software developers more than ever before, with the online recruitment platform seeing record numbers of interview requests being sent on its site.
Launched in November 2015 by brothers Malan and Philip Joubert, OfferZen connects companies with top software developers looking for permanent work.
Employers register on the recruitment platform and are given access to a curated list of developers.
The company started in Cape Town, and has gradually been expanding within SA and the Netherlands.
“Demand on our platforms is looking really robust. Despite the recent economic downturn, the global pandemic has also highlighted the potential of companies that are able to take their operations online, empower remote work and work across distributed teams,” says Stephen van der Heijden, VP of growth at OfferZen.
“There are also some pretty great companies in Durban that we’ve been learning and growing with throughout the years. We’re excited to get to know more of them and help them grow their dev teams.”
The company has been operating in multiple countries and cities for over a year and says opening OfferZen to more cities across the globe increases its chances of helping to match good talent with impactful opportunities.
One of the anticipated highlights of launching in Durban, according to OfferZen, is collaborating with and learning from the local developer community as tech companies in the KwaZulu-Natal city grow aggressively and hire developers more than ever before.
According to the 2021 South African Software Developer Nation Report, compiled by OfferZen, Durban has the fourth-highest number of developers in the country. The research also notes Durban-based developers are generally more interested in gaming and marketing tech, with a passion for .NET Core, Microsoft’s open source development platform.
With remote working preferences gaining traction in the developer community, the company says it is expecting to see a lot more movement between tech hubs.
“Location seems to matter a little less. We’ve seen a sharp shift to working from home that seems here to stay, at least in some form, beyond the pandemic,” notesVan der Heijden.
“Developers seem to be enjoying the increased control that remote work is giving them over their time and environment. Companies are getting more flexible and are hiring across locations to make the most of their increased talent pool.”
