ICT services firm T-Systems has won a R50 million contract to provide glassmaker Consol with outsourcing services.
In a statement, the local arm of Germany-based T-Systems says it will look after Consol's ICT environment for six years.
Johan du Plessis, Consol SA's IT divisional director, says the contract consists of two three-year cycles, merged into an initial six-year relationship.
"The main advantage to Consol is that we have flexibility in our IT supply and there is an agreed cost reduction over the period of the contract," he says. "Consol was not prepared to get 'locked in' to a longer term contract without some real advantages, one of which was keeping the flexibility to restructure the service to our requirements in the future."
T-Systems SA CEO Mardia van der Walt-Korsten says the deal includes infrastructure, applications and the network. "They needed a partner that could provide the full scope of ICT services and which truly understands IT outsourcing."
Du Plessis says T-Systems' application of a co-management model means decisions are taken from operational, tactical and strategic levels. "For Consol, this model was a necessity due to the structure of the support of business systems, and although it is still early days to evaluate its impact, I would say so far it is working well."
