Sybase named number one

In a recent report, Sybase iAnywhere was recognised as the leader in mobile device management enterprise software, according to IT market research advisory firm IDC, reports Yahoo.

The report is titled: "Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise 2007-2011 Forecast and 2006 Vendor Shares".

"We`re pleased that Sybase iAnywhere continues to be recognised as the leader in enabling companies to easily secure, manage and access mobile business applications," said Terry Stepien, president of Sybase iAnywhere.

Cisco shifts into WiMax

Cisco announced plans to purchase Navini Networks, a manufacturer of mobile WiMax wireless networking equipment, reports Internet News.

Under the terms of yesterday`s agreement, Cisco will pay $330 million in cash and assumed stock options for the company. The acquisition is scheduled to close by the end of January.

Once finalised, the deal will complete the networking giant`s change in its thinking on WiMax, placing Cisco squarely into the wireless metropolitan network market and potentially pushing it into competition with 3G wireless network providers.

Wireless programme prepares students

Students in Rend Lake College`s new wireless communications technology programme are being trained to work with cellular and wireless technology, says The Southern.

The programme started three years ago, and this May graduated four students with associate of applied science degrees in wireless communications technology.

"The programme is meant to create technicians who will work with cellular technology and wireless technology," said Salah Shakir, VP of IT and student services at Rend Lake.
