Supply Chain Council to co-host SAPICS conference

By SAPICS
Johannesburg, 24 Feb 2005

The Professional Society for Supply Chain Management in South Africa (SAPICS) has announced that its 27th Annual Conference will be held in conjunction with the Supply Chain Council.

In addition to the diverse range of presentations, case studies and workshops traditionally offered by this annual event, the Supply Chain Council will add a series of presentations focusing specifically on the SCOR-Model, says SAPICS president Tracy Cheetham.

Developed by the Supply Chain Council, the SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference)-Model is a proven methodology to maximise supply chain efficiency.

Conference delegates will be offered a practical, easy-to-understand overview of the SCOR-Model, as well as a rundown of the changes and improvements made to the latest version, Release 7.

In addition, they will receive an introduction to the "Design-Chain" and "Customer-Chain" variants. SCOR tools, including add-ons in the Microsoft software suite, will also be demonstrated. Recent case studies will be used to illustrate the application of SCOR techniques and the benefits they can yield.

"SAPICS is delighted to welcome the Supply Chain Council as our co-host for this event," Cheetham says. "We believe it represents the beginning of the amalgamation of professional supply chain organisations, and that this progression can only be beneficial to all our members."

The Southern Africa Chapter of the Supply Chain Council was founded and is sponsored by UTi Worldwide. A non-profit organisation of businesses, the council aims to develop and share best practices in supply chain management.
