Softline Accpac Business Partner of the Year 2008, AccTech Systems, has successfully deployed Sage Accpac ERP at Sun City. The world-renowned resort is the flagship in Africa's premier hotel resort and gaming group, Sun International's, stable. The rollout saw Sage Accpac ERP replacing Sun City's existing tier-1 ERP system.
“Sun International had its first rollout of Accpac DOS in 1988, with the penultimate site being deployed in Nigeria in 2007 on Accpac ERP. Sun City was the last of the resorts earmarked for the Accpac rollout,” says Ugen Govender, commercial manager for gaming north, Sun International. He says the decision to move from the existing tier-1 solution was not an easy one, due to the size and complexity of Sun City's system.
AccTech Systems has provided Sun International with ERP support across the African continent for the past four years. “Our dedicated support centre and excellent service influenced Sun International's decision to implement Sage Accpac ERP at Sun City,” says Tertius Zitzke, Chief Executive Officer, AccTech Systems.
Also influencing the move was Accpac ERP's ability to integrate historical data from the incumbent system: “The need for historical data within the leisure industry is imperative. As a result, Sun International decided to use AccTech's Integration.Net data converter in conjunction with its move to Accpac ERP. We imported five years' worth of history onto Accpac's general ledger and three years of data into the sub-ledgers. It made the data conversion from the tier-1 system very easy and affirmed our decision to move,” says Govender.
Since the rollout, he says productivity has increased substantially. Govender sites the business intelligence application, Accpac Insight, as an example: “Sun City's management reports are automatically generated, which is an impressive time saver. It also enables system users to spend more time analysing and interpreting the statistical data, which leads to improved decision-making.” He says that on the previous system it would take three days to produce management reports, which are now generated and electronically distributed to management with the click of a button. Further benefits lie in operating costs, as he says that traditionally paper usage is a major expense in any accounting division, but with Accpac ERP, Sun City has managed to dramatically decrease its paper usage, giving this implementation a massive green stamp of approval.
“Sun International and its 20 resorts are great success stories,” says Jeremy Waterman, managing director of Softline Accpac. “The Sun City rollout boosted the total amount of Accpac users for Sun International to over 300. It is a tribute to Accpac ERP, proving it deserves its reputation as a market leader. It also proves that one of the strengths of the solution is that together with its core modules, Softline Accpac's business partners are able to extend it and offer a complete end-to-end solution,” concludes Waterman.
