Strontium intros DDR-3 modules

Strontium Technology introduced DDR-3 modules for notebooks and desktops for the Indian market, reports ITVARNews.

The retail packaged high-speed DDR-3 modules are available in 1333MHz and 1066MHz speeds as 240 pin UDIMMs and 204 pin SODIMMs in 1GB and 2GB densities.

According to the Web site, the modules meet the demands of enthusiasts and gamers looking for ever higher performance at more efficient power consumption parameters.

Desktop digs in

Despite the notebook's surge in popularity, the stalwart desktop remains strong with solid sales and innovative iterations, ARN reports.

Never mind the notebooks, which began to outsell the desktop for the first time in 2008, and the netbook, which is arguably one of the hottest products on the market; the desktop is still going strong and in demand.

In the most recent financial quarter, PC shipments worldwide, including desktop and notebook PCs, totalled 63.4 million - down 7.1% from the first quarter last year, but better than IDC's forecast of an 8.2% decline.

Gateway coming soon

Acer will reveal its Gateway branded desktops and notebooks next week, and plans to release servers and netbooks under the revived badge by the end of the year, according to The Register.

The Taiwanese vendor announced in February that it was reviving the Gateway brand it acquired back in 2007, and said it would ship machines aimed at SMEs and delivered through the channel in March.

However, three months on, it has confirmed that shipments in the UK are unlikely to begin till June.
