National online recruitment solution provider CareerJunction has secured its server room and 30 computer workstations against mains power failures and electricity grid load-shedding by upgrading its existing uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with extended battery backup at its Cape Town headquarters.
The solution was designed, supplied, installed and commissioned by the power division of the Square One Solutions Group, a JSE-listed ICT company.
Square One Solutions Group power division account manager Ivor Williams said the general uncertainty over the stability of power supply in the Western Cape and regular blackouts caused by load-shedding in recent months had led to demand for UPS solutions with seriously extended battery backup.
"An eight-hour battery backup is unusual but ideally meets the specialised needs of CareerJunction because a solution incorporating a standby diesel generator is not appropriate. We are also designing solutions with extended battery backup of four to five hours for a number of companies operating in the distribution and medical fields."
The CareerJunction UPS solution comprises a 20kVA Square One uninterruptible power supply unit linked to four battery cabinets each containing 32 batteries. Each battery is rated at 105 Amp-hours and they are inter-connected in a square formation.
Established in 1997 to provide a state-of-the-art online recruitment solution for both career-seekers and recruiters, CareerJunction's success has been founded on its ability to deliver new levels of speed, ease and efficiency to both sides of the recruitment spectrum.
About 600 companies advertise on the CareerJunction Web site (www.careerjunction.co.za), which carries 330 000 searchable resumes/CVs and more than 540 000 people are registered with it as career seekers. The Web site is incredibly busy and every month it receives about 220 000 unique users, generates more than 10 million page impressions, distributes more than 700 000 direct emails, advertises 30 000 jobs and processes 440 000 job applications.
"With this volume of traffic and activity, it was imperative that CareerJunction's operations were not impeded by power failures and load shedding," added Williams. "The UPS installation supported by eight-hour battery backup presented the most effective means of securing their head office operations."
